AW04 Undercover 68 “Red Yarn” / Kanye West x A.P.C. Hybrid Denim

A one-off reconstructed pair built around Undercover’s cult 68 “Red Yarn” denim, one of the defining expressions of Jun Takahashi’s heavily distressed approach to denim. The original jeans feature extensive abrasion, exposed weft, frayed openings, raw hems, contrasting repair work, and the signature red-yarn detailing that gives the model its name.

This pair has been modified with denim side gussets taken from Kanye West x A.P.C. jeans. Running along the outer seams, the inserted panels widen the original Undercover silhouette while creating a visible tonal contrast between the two denims. Rather than disguising the alteration, the construction leaves the hybrid nature of the garment legible — combining two distinct pieces of 2010s designer denim into a single reconstructed pair.

The result retains the obsessive distressing and punk sensibility of Undercover’s original 68 denim while giving it a wider, more contemporary proportion. An entirely individual garment defined equally by its original design and its subsequent reconstruction.
