1950's French Chore Coat — Blackmeans Pins
An original mid-century French work jacket transformed through decades of wear, repair, fading, and subsequent customization. Cut in classic striped workwear cloth, the coat has aged from its original blue into an irregular spectrum of indigo, washed grey, ecru, and sun-faded ochre.
The surface reads almost like an abstract textile: areas once protected from exposure retain deeper blue pigmentation while the surrounding fabric has faded dramatically, revealing the garment's history through color. Scattered stains, hand repairs, loose threads, abrasions, and small areas of distress remain intact rather than being restored away.
Finished with Blackmeans-branded pins at the chest, introducing a contemporary Japanese punk reference to an otherwise utilitarian piece of vintage French workwear. The result is a genuinely singular garment whose character cannot be reproduced through conventional distressing or wash treatments.
